When my daughter, Kristin, suggested I produce an enlarged copy of The Runaway Letters for presentations, I was intrigued. 

I turned to the expertise of Fahim and Seema at the Island Ship Center on Grand Island, NY. They worked tirelessly to develop an enlarged book that could withstand the test of time and the loving embrace of many little hands. And they did just that! With the help of master bookbinder Laura Chenault of Laurel Tree Bindery, they produced a masterpiece. 

I was invited to read to the children of St. Timothy’s Nursery School for the first time in March of 2023. The children and teachers were great. The large edition of The Runaway Letters captivated their imaginations. “Our kids LOVED it, and we’re so thankful to Ms. Geri for joining us!” a St. Timothy’s representative noted later. Questions and comments bounced through the air as the children engaged with the story. They loved touching the laminated pages and receiving their stickers depicting the stuffed owl and two stuffed unicorns featured in the book.

Geri Lyon is a newly published children’s book author who is also one of our dear clients. After a lengthy hiatus due to COVID, she finally had the opportunity to see her grandkids again. Geri was so excited and the experience so monumental that she was inspired to write a book about it to share her joy with the world. It’s called The Runaway Letters. 

After the book was published, Geri came to Island Ship Center to involve our expertise on an upcoming project. She needed custom made stickers, business cards, and a large bound and laminated book to take to book readings and share with kids. All of these items had to match the artistic cover of the original book. Seema took on the challenge and, with the help of Laura at Laurel Tree Bindery, came up with a unique, handmade book that was ready for Geri to show off and read from at her upcoming book reading events.

Each page was enlarged, set up for the book in segments, printed, laminated, and then cut. After we had done all of that, we turned it over to Laura, who stitched the segments together and handmade the front and back covers of the book with the printed and laminated pages. The result was a beautiful, handmade, one-of-a-kind book. 

When we unveiled the book to Geri, we took a video to share her joy with the world. She was exuberant and proudly exclaimed that the result far exceeded her expectations. We were so thankful and happy to share in that moment and had to share that with all of you.
